Heads of state and top officials from more than 50 nations are to attend the summit from March 26-27, 2012 in the South Korean capital, which is intended to build upon a similar meeting that took place two years ago in Washington.... The event is being held in conjunction with a separate nuclear energy industry summit slated for March 23-24, also in Seoul. There, energy company officials from the United States and abroad will discuss “the role of the private sector in nuclear security and safety while cultivating an understanding of the need for in-depth cooperation within the industry..." How awfully convenient. and yep, oilbama will be there setting the stage for iran etc ... gahhhh

December 19, 2011 - Hosono Says Fukushima Plant Is in ‘Equivalent of Cold Shutdown’
Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s crippled reactors in Fukushima are in a state “equivalent to cold shutdown” even though the definition would be different in the case of an undamaged plant, Goshi Hosono, the minister in charge of responding to the disaster, said today.

“We understand that there is a difference between the cold shutdown state for a normal nuclear reactor and the state of cold shutdown that we have achieved at Fukushima Dai-Ichi,” Hosono told reporters in Tokyo. “The goal is to have nuclear fuel where it is kept in a cold state and to ensure that radioactive materials are not emitted. That is the whole point of the cooling system that we have in place.”

Jaczko banished to Japan
Chairman Jaczko of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission visited Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant for the first time since the accident started, and gave a press conference afterwards in Tokyo. He said the announcement of "a cold shutdown state" by the Japanese government was a proper decision and that it would be important to share the information regarding the accident with the international communities to prevent similar accidents from happening again.

“Regulatory Meltdown” Reveals Efforts to Improve Nuclear Safety Undermined by Four NRC Commissioners

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of his ongoing investigation into U.S. nuclear safety since the Fukushima meltdowns, today Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Congress’s leading voice for nuclear safety, released a blockbuster new report that details how four Commissioners at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) colluded to prevent and then delay the work of the NRC Near-Term Task Force on Fukushima, the entity tasked with making recommendation s for improvement to NRC regulations and processes after the Fukushima meltdowns, the worst nuclear disaster in history. The Near-Term Task Force members comprise more than 135 years of collective experience at the NRC, and with full access to expert NRC staff completed a methodical and comprehensive review of NRC’s regulatory system.

Top nuke regulators tell White House of ‘grave concerns’ with NRC chairman

Members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission have told the White House that NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko is causing “serious damage” to the agency that could harm the body’s ability to protect health and safety. An Oct. 13 letter from Jaczko’s four NRC colleagues to White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley is a powerful, unified rebuke of the agency’s leader by his fellow commissioners, who cite “grave concerns” about his conduct and allege it’s increasingly “erratic.”

Murkowski calls on Obama to stop meltdown at Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is troubled by the bizarre reports of infighting at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. As first reported by Politico, an October letter sent to the White House by four NRC commissioners was released Friday. The letter said that the chairman of the agency, Gregory Jaczko, had “intimidated and bullied senior staff,” and has been interacting with the commission with “such intemperance and disrespect” that the agency is not functioning as it should….
